The Natomas Charter School Blackrock Campus Expansion modernizes the charter school’s existing campus to accommodate the influx of students anticipated in the coming years. Studio W Architects is taking a well beyond design approach in keeping with Natomas Charter School’s key principles of being purposeful, relevant and engaging at the forefront of this campus expansion.
Phase 1 consists of portable demolition to make way for a two-story classroom building containing instructional, art and science labs/classrooms. The sloped roofs, metal detailing and cement plaster will allow the new building to blend seamlessly with the campus’ existing facilities. Additionally, the existing field will be restriped and upgraded to include a decomposed granite track. Additionally, landscape improvements will be incorporated throughout the campus.
Phase 2 will modernize the front and back office of the administration facility, while adding additional conference rooms and a large teacher’s lounge. A new theater building with classrooms will replace an existing classroom building, providing students with a larger space for performing arts. Re-use of the existing theater building has been proposed for conversion into additional classroom spaces.
