The Studio W Story

Founded on the principles of serving the communities where we live, work and play, Studio W Architects was established as a design firm specializing in educational and public works architecture. The company originally opened its doors in Fremont, CA in 1989 as an architecture and structural engineering practice named BCA Architects. Soon thereafter, the firm began focusing exclusively on architecture and expanded into the commercial market.

Today, Studio W Architects is a full-service architecture, interiors and planning firm with thriving public and private education, civic, commercial and retail markets throughout California. The firm rebranded from BCA Architects to become Studio W Architects in 2021 as a reflection of the company’s current leadership, core values and energetic staff.

Our mission of enriching the fabric of communities and delighting the human experience is a mainstay of our culture and the foundation of what we do. Our innovation and passion are driven by research, lessons learned, continuing education, a commitment to sustainability and, most importantly, partnerships with our clients and users. We create spaces where people learn, socialize, imagine, collaborate and dream—and WE HAVE FUN DOING IT.

well beyond design.®

Architecture is more than just great design. We know that in order to be successful we must also bring a high-level of value and service to our clients. We approach each project by examining all aspects of how it will be implemented and how it will ultimately perform. How is the project funded and are there ways to maximize the investment? How does the building, campus or organization influence the community and how might the scope of that project enhance its social impact? And how does the timeline of implementation directly affect the financial outcomes?

We bring together our knowledge, expertise and affiliations with industry partners to bridge the gaps between vision and reality. We reach solutions that extend well beyond design.® Once we understand the project and the challenges or opportunities it presents, we can craft creative, responsive and practical designs that are imaginative, emotional and timeless.
