The Foundation Building¹ is located within Meriam Park’s Thrive District, which focuses on job creation and the progression of work environments that meet the demands of the modern workforce. It bolsters productivity, infuses economic stability, accommodates entrepreneurial seedling companies of Chico and the region, and attracts company relocation and expansion to Chico. The architecture of Thrive features a stylized tech aesthetic integrated with modern accents and natural finishes with pops of color.
The Foundation Building is implemented with flexibility to allow for end-user adaptation. The exterior boasts perforated screened walls to allow for better thermal and solar performance, as well as visual interest. The screening is purposely located on east and west sides due to high sun exposure. The building façade leveraged the viewshed of a park across the street with unique outdoor spaces and roof terraces. Existing utility constraints were used to maximize floor area, which gave the building its unique shape, and takes advantage of street frontage.
