Studio W Architects1 Chico Studio had the privilege of working with the Executive Team of Lake County Indian Health Consortium to design their premier 24,000 square foot Southshore Clinic. From the beginning of the project, the vision of the team at Lake County Tribal Health was to make this building a beacon for Clearlake that incorporated cultural elements and features of the Tribes of Lake County, while providing much needed healthcare services to the south end of the lake.

The site chosen for the project required the footprint to be both compact and efficient. Studio W was able to offer an idea for a building design that arranged the provider spaces in pods around central bullpens. This design allows for greater efficiency, as the patients are brought directly to their providers, and moving between exam rooms and medical offices is more seamless. The project also included design of a complex underground stormwater system.

The clinic was designed with 10 exam rooms and two treatment rooms in four pods on the first floor, and there are 10 dental operatories on the second floor. The project also includes a laboratory and pharmacy along with a flexible meeting and training room which includes a teaching kitchen, along with a movable partition wall to accommodate groups of varying sizes.

This joint collaboration resulted in a beautiful building that truly enhances the community while also working to effectively serve the needs of the local area.

1 This project was completed by the Architecture Department of NorthStar, which was acquired by Studio W Architects on April 1, 2024.
