San Juan Unified School District has partnered with Studio W Architects to modernize the existing science wing at San Juan High School, transforming the building into a forward-thinking educational environment that supports contemporary science programs and support services. The program’s focus includes a reconfiguration of learning and circulation spaces, creating improved classroom and science lab layouts, a maker’s space, new storage rooms, a shared prep area between all labs and a family resource area with private offices, as well as restrooms. The updated science labs are designed to open to an outdoor courtyard, promoting indoor-outdoor learning opportunities. To prioritize safety and meet current standards, classrooms will be equipped with appropriate safety stations and chemical storage. In addition, flexible and durable furnishings will be procured to ensure each learning space is adaptable to evolving program needs.
