Elkhorn Village Elementary School is a traditionally designed campus from the 1950s and, with Studio W Architects’ proposed design, is in the process of being converted into a 21st Century learning environment. This campus-wide modernization focuses on rejuvenating the street frontage, creating a safe off-street early childhood education area, enhancing the quad between the new grades 3-8 classroom buildings and reconstructing the parking lots, while maintaining Tiger Pride throughout.

The campus’ two parking lots have been redesigned, offering two protected off-street drop-off areas that lead to clear, enhanced gated entrances, which proudly welcome students bilingually, supporting the school’s dual immersion program. The administration area is brought forward and celebrates the community with an exciting new architectural feature, where the upper glazing affords an opportunity to display school spirit with a tiger paw print. Within the expanded and completely modernized administration building, a wellness center is being added that will serve as a space where students and staff can comfortably and safely work.

Studio W’s design creates a protected area for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program that includes seven new classrooms with dedicated restrooms to replace the existing ECE buildings and consolidates the program around a centralized play yard. The new 6-8 classrooms will split into three buildings with a centralized restroom area and a trellis-covered breezeway, creating an open connection to the campus core for grades 3-8. These centralized classrooms provide extended learning opportunities beyond the walls of the classroom, taking advantage of the courtyards between the existing classroom buildings and the new outdoor learning circles.
