Los Angeles, CA—Blending the worlds of architecture and fashion, Studio W Architects’ project designers, Klaude Matias and Mahdieh Nasiri from our Newport Beach Studio, showcased their creative talents at the IIDA Southern California Chapter’s Haunt Couture event.

This year’s theme, “Met Gala Gone Mad,” challenged teams to interpret a past Met Gala concept and craft a couture garment in just six hours using sponsored materials. Klaude and Mahdieh collaborated with their sponsor, Megan Plante from OFS Brands, to bring their vision to life.

Reflecting on the whirlwind experience, Klaude shared, “Although it was intense creating a garment in six hours in one sitting, designing with Mahdieh and Megan was a very fun and memorable experience.”

The Studio W team drew inspiration from the 2024 Met Gala theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Interpreting the duality of “sleeping vs. awakening,” they designed a garment that balanced softness and strength, a surreal blue rose that was both delicate in its curves and bold in its thorns. The avant-garde silhouette captured a sense of “fashion meets architecture,” blending sculptural form with elegant simplicity.

The final creation took to the runway on October 23rd, celebrating innovation, collaboration and the spirit of design that transcends disciplines.
