Chico, CA—We’re excited to introduce Daine Treff, Project Designer at our Chico Studio, as November’s Studio W Spotlight team member! A Chico native, Daine gained a fresh perspective on his hometown’s rich tree canopy and stunning fall colors after moving to Missouri, where he earned his Master of Architecture degree from Drury University. Daine’s passion for architecture stems from the lasting impact a thoughtfully designed space can have on future generations. As a project designer, Daine plays a key role in transforming clients’ visions into inspiring, functional spaces. Leveraging his creative vision and technical expertise, he specializes in architectural drawings and renderings with Lumion and Revit. His project experience includes the Lake County Tribal Health Consortium Headquarters & Health Services Facilities Master Plan, the Greenville Rancheria Replacement Clinic and Little Chico Creek Elementary School TK-K Building.

Daine is inspired by Olympian Anthony Ervin, loves lasagna and enjoys spending his weekends with friends. Learn more about Daine…

What is your hometown, or where do you live currently and what do you like about it?

Chico is where I live currently and is my hometown. I really enjoy all of the trees, especially during the Fall. Many of the streets look amazing and create a scenic drive as the leaves are changing. I didn’t focus on it when I was growing up, but when I moved away for college to a city with very few trees, it put it more into perspective.

What is your favorite restaurant or food?

My favorite food is lasagna.

What is your favorite song, movie or book?

My current favorite song is “Saturn” by RIZ LA VIE.

What is a typical weekend for you?

A typical weekend for me usually consists of yardwork, spending time with friends and swimming.

Who is your hero or a person that inspires you?

Anthony Ervin is a person that inspires me. He is a professional swimmer and Olympian. Just a small part of why I am inspired by him is he retired in 2003, decided to return to training in 2011 and then won gold in the 50 freestyle in the 2016 Olympics as the oldest individual gold medalist in swimming.

How did you find architecture?

I took an architectural drafting class in high school, and that class interested me enough to change my mind from engineering, which had previously been the direction I was planning on pursuing.

What is your most memorable project and why?

My memorable project has been the Greenville Rancheria Replacement Clinic. This was the first project that I was a part of from the start.

What is your favorite aspect of working at Studio W Architects?

Everyone I have had the chance to work with has been great. All the job captains and client leaders I work with have been very understanding and helpful with growing my knowledge and skills.

What project have you worked on at Studio W that made you grow the most professionally? Why?

The Greenville Rancheria Replacement Clinic. My knowledge of detailing, especially wall-to-roof connections, grew with this project. It was also the first project I have been a part of through every phase, and seen pieces of a building that I designed be implemented.
