Sacramento, CA: The City of Sacramento has hired BCA Architects, along with our consultants PGAdesign (landscape architect); Auerbach, Pollock & Friedlander (theatrical and acoustical designer) and Mead & Hunt (historic specialist) for the renovation of the iconic Land Park Amphitheater. The outdoor performance venue was originally constructed in the late 1930’s/early 1940’s and, like many other projects that were created in the WPA era, it is structurally unsafe and lacks the contemporary amenities seen in facilities of this type today.
The horseshoe-shaped amphitheater is terraced with low retaining walls, stone steps, a series of wood benches and lawn seating, all of which can accommodate roughly 700 spectators. Along with much-needed accessibility improvements, the facilities also require an expanded stage area, improved sight lines, upgraded lighting, sound equipment, acoustical treatments, restrooms and wayfinding. One of the overarching goals of the project is to retain the historic characteristics, original charm and beautiful landscaping features that exist at Land Park and the amphitheater.
BCA Architects’ first task is to develop a thorough master plan for improvements. Our team is excited to restore this city landmark while giving it a true sense of place and transforming it into a state-of-the-art performance venue that attracts talent and spectators from throughout Northern California.
