The BCA Architects’ team of Emerging Professionals took top prize for their creative re-invention of Sacramento’s Albert Winn Park. In a design competition facilitated by the American Institute of Architects’ Central Valley Chapter, in partnership with the Midtown Association and the City of Sacramento, participants were challenged to revitalize and activate Albert Winn Park and the abandoned fire alarm building that occupies the site.
Located at 1616 28th Street in midtown Sacramento, the purpose of the competition was to create an environment that draws the public to the park as a destination, suggest building modifications that will attract tenants and expand use of the site for special events (such as weddings and celebrations). The BCA Team of Amanda Menschel, Arturo Ruiz-Martell, Lisa May and Spencer Binkerd took top honors as the grand prize winners with their universal design that is walkable, bikeable and encourages use at all hours of the day.
