Our Sacramento Studio had a blast hosting AIA Central Valley’s Hands-On Architecture for Kids event this past weekend as part of Experience Architecture 2026! We welcomed kids and their families into our office for a morning of creativity, exploration and hands-on learning as they discovered what it is like to work in the world of architecture.
The event gave young participants the opportunity to step inside an architecture studio and see where architects collaborate and bring ideas to life. Kids explored a variety of activities designed to introduce them to the creative and hands-on side of architecture. They used craft and sample building materials to create their own designs, spent time and even had the chance to walk through the plans for our Sacramento office.
We set up building stations throughout the office where kids built their own birdhouses and tea light holders, experimenting with materials and creating something they could take home with them. Each station offered a different way for the kids to develop their designs and construct their pieces.
The most rewarding part of the day was seeing each child approach the activities in their own unique way. At Studio W Architects, we love creating opportunities for the next generation to explore architecture and discover where their creativity can take them. Events like Hands-On Architecture for Kids are a great reminder that architecture is not just about building design, it’s about imagination, problem-solving, collaboration and turning ideas into something real.
