The transmission building at Skyline College is a great addition to their popular Automotive Technology program, which trains students in the art of automotive repair and maintenance. With eight bays, seven car lifts, a new dynamometer and a high-tech classroom and transmission bench lab, this new facility enhances the learning experience for the College’s students. The use of concrete masonry blocks with alternating bands of smooth faced and split-faced blocks makes the building architecturally pleasing while retaining a high-tech industrial look that the District was interested in achieving.
Among the hallmarks of Career Technical Education design is the ability to make a learning space feel as close as possible to the real work environment in which it emulates. The Transmission and Automotive Technology Center is a mirror image of the real automotive centers with which this educational pathway aligns. Students are given real-world exposure to working in an automotive repair environment, utilizing the same equipment and vehicles that they would in the workplace environment.
