Diane Hanamoto, Senior Project Architect, and Tony Pacheco-Taylor, Client Leader, had the tremendous opportunity to be hosted by Myrtha Pools in Castiglione, Italy where they toured Myrtha Pools’ Headquarters to experience the inner workings of the world-renowned aquatics syndicate. They also toured two Myrtha Pool installations in Milan. The Myrtha crew was gracious and welcoming as they guided them through HQ and presented their one-of-a-kind pool systems, innovative technology and the design process for each project, as well as a tour of the warehouse, manufacturing area and shipping facilities. The group also toured operational facilities with Myrtha pool installations – the first one being at a Fitness Club on the outskirts of Milan and the second was at the University of Milan Recreation Center. Both pools highlighted different building techniques and featured specific accessories and qualities. The Fitness Club was an in-ground 8-lane, 25-meter pool, while the one at the University of Milany was an elevated pool with all of the piping, filtration, pumps and heaters below and exposed.

Diane, who regularly volunteers as an official for USA Swimming meets, found that her favorite part of the visit was seeing the technology they developed to aid competitive swimmers, such as pace lighting at the bottom of the pool. Additional special, stand-out features included the ability to make pools more versatile with split bulkheads that can be positioned at specific locations in the pool, as well as technology that aids with life safety, such as zoned cameras that are used to monitor the activities of pool users and alert the lifeguards of potential problems. She also mentioned the great efficiency in which Myrtha Pools designs, manufactures and ships their product.
