Sacramento, CA—We’re pleased to introduce Kimberly Thach, Project Designer in our Sacramento Studio, as this month’s Studio W Spotlight team member. Kimberly may be one of our newer project designers here at Studio W, but she has multiple years of experience in the design industry. After attending a design showcase following her transfer to Sacramento State University, her passion for design materialized into her career in the architectural industry. She is responsible for initiating designs and documentation for projects such as the Victory Park Pool Renovation for the City of Stockton, Farallone View Elementary School Modernization for Cabrillo Unified School District and Paradise High School Reconstruction for Paradise Unified School District.
Kimberly loves to explore Midtown Sacramento’s shops and restaurants, spending time with her friends and family and checking out the occasional estate sale. Learn more about Kimberly…
What is your hometown, or where do you live currently and what do you like about it?
I’m originally from Modesto, California and I moved to Sacramento about seven years ago. I like that there are always new shops and restaurants where I live in Midtown.
What is your favorite restaurant or food?
At the moment, my favorite restaurant/bar is Betty Bar & Shop. It’s close to my home, so I usually go by after work or with friends on the weekend. They have a great selection of wines and food on their menu. I really enjoy the atmosphere and interiors.
What is a typical weekend for you?
On a typical weekend, I go out for dinner Friday night and try to find somewhere new to go each time. Saturday morning, I either go to the Midtown Farmers Market, a local coffee shop or an estate sale. During the summer, I like to go out with friends or family on Saturday nights, then walks to the park on Sunday mornings.
How did you find architecture?
I have been interested in fashion and interior design since I was young; I even took merchandising classes in high school. I transferred to Sacramento State University in the middle of my college experience, and while deciding which new major to choose with my fresh start, attended the Design Department’s Senior Showcase. After seeing some of the interior architecture displayed, I decided that’s what I wanted to pursue.
What is your most memorable project and why?
My most memorable project is the City of Stockton Victory Park Pool. It has been a fun project for me. I have been able to model it and work on some of the material selections.
What is your favorite aspect of working at Studio W Architects?
My favorite aspect of working at Studio W Architects is the community of people who support each other, like being able to fly out in support of another team member who was representing the firm at the IIDA Fashion Show in Southern California, and I had the opportunity to participate in the WeCare event benefitting the Boys & Girls Club this last holiday season.
What project have you worked on at Studio W that made you grow the most professionally? Why?
A project that I’ve worked on at Studio W that has made me grow professionally is the Alum Rock UESD HVAC Projects. As a new designer, I’ve learned a lot about the process of coordinating with other consultants and being able to go to the initial meetings leading up to the DSA submittals and working on backcheck.
