Winters, CA—Construction is progressing nicely on the new classroom building at Winters High School, which is expected to be complete this Spring. The new building is part of the Phase 3 work and features 12 learning spaces, including a biology lab, an art classroom with kiln, a life skills classroom with a full residential-style kitchen and teachers’ lounge/workrooms. Additional work planned under Phase 3 includes a new weight room/music building and relocating portable buildings.

The campus-wide renovation of Winters High School has been a phased process that started in 2014 when Studio W Architects began working with the District in the facilities master planning process. Construction on the $32.7 million transformation commenced in 2017. Phase 1 included a new CTE building, which was opened in January of 2019. The football stadium was completely renovated in 2019, including new lighting, bleachers, press box and synthetic surfaces for the track and field facilities. Phase 2 comprised a new classroom building, conversion of existing art labs into a new student union/cafeteria and a new administration building, all of which was completed in 2020.

The design language of the new and modernized facilities boasts full brick veneer, cement plaster finish and bronze castings, which was influenced by and connects back to the historic character of the town of Winters.

Additional projects with Winters JUSD include the modernization of Winters Middle School and improvements at Rominger School.

Winters JUSD is committed to embracing the academic excellence and success of its students, in part by providing safe and contemporary facilities. The District has successfully passed four bond measures to fund facilities repairs (2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020) – a remarkable accomplishment for any California school district. The community’s support of the District is a testament to the trust and appreciation of the Board of Trustees and administration that oversee these exceptional initiatives, as well as the creative work of Studio W Architects and our partners.
