On November 15, 2016, twin sisters Brie and Michele Gargano led a presentation for the Citizen Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) on behalf of Washington Unified School District to discuss quality control, project regulations and minimum code requirements for public schools.

They explained to the committee that when project begins, the District’s desires are itemized and aligned with requirements for school safety at the Division of the State Architect (DSA) for Fire Life Safety, Access Compliance and Structural Safety.  Not all the District’s needs are always covered by current funding and the requirements for minimum code compliance often move to the top of the priorities list. The sisters used imagery to show the committee how they balance the requirements for the project with the code and yet still accommodate a haven for 21st Century learning. At the end of the night, the committee expressed that the presentation helped them to understand why not all project improvements are necessarily visible to the naked eye. Even when there are major upgrades to bring their facilities solidly into the 21st Century, much of that effort is invested into creating a firm foundation for code compliance in the future.
